Description : Job Summary :

Based on site in northeastern Minnesota and reporting to the Technical Services Manager with strong support to Engineering staff, the Senior Process Engineer is responsible for leading or supporting metallurgical testing, engineering studies, flowsheet development and equipment selection. Drawing on broad industry experience to apply diversified engineering techniques to complex situations,

the incumbent or the consultant they manage, will make technical contributions to various projects with a particular focus on mineral processing (comminution, flotation and solid-liquid separation) and geometallurgy. The incumbent should have demonstrated experience in plant design, strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, and critical and conceptual thinking abilities.

The successful candidate requires a project coordination background with demonstrated project management, organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, the preferred candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, building key relationships across multi-disciplinary teams and communicating key messages and recommendations to all company levels, including the President & General Manager and Technical Committee, is core to the role. This role requires a self-motivated individual who enjoys managing multiple projects and priorities with minimal supervision. The Senior Process Engineer will also participate in the Mineral Resource and Reserves reporting process for NewRange ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirement.

Overview :

Located in the historic iron range mining region of northeastern Minnesota, NewRange is a 50 : 50 joint venture of subsidiaries of Teck American Inc. (Teck) and PolyMet Mining Corp. (Glencore) that is advancing two major copper-nickel-platinum-palladium deposits, NorthMet and Sunrise. Project activities range from readying the feasibility stage NorthMet project for a production decision pending clearance of mine permits to advancing the nearby Sunrise project to pre-feasibility studies and permitting. NewRange is committed to unlocking a new domestic supply chain of critical metals for the transition to a low-carbon economy and positioning Minnesota as a world leader in sustainable mineral resource development.

Responsibilities :

  • Be a courageous safety leader, leading by example and fostering a proactive safety and sustainability culture based on the common values on health, safety, environment, and communities shared by the asset owners.
  • Lead process engineering and operational / optimization projects with key success factors aligned to the project business case, including health and safety, environmental compliance, technical outcomes, schedule, cost, and quality.
  • Manage and coordinate activities with multiple groups, including equipment manufacturers and technology providers, engineering companies, on-site contractors, and subject matter experts.
  • Provide metallurgical support to techno-economic studies, including scoping and pre-feasibility and feasibility engineering activities.
  • Effectively communicate key messages and recommendations by issuing high-quality reports and delivering effective presentations to all personnel levels.
  • Provide metallurgical oversight for new projects.
  • Conduct metallurgical analysis and technical interpretation of data.
  • Work closely with geological staff in selection of samples for test work on new projects to ensure proper representation of rock types and to assess mineralogical variability.
  • Plan and manage metallurgical test work programs to continuously advance geometallurgical understanding.
  • Interpret metallurgical results with context from geological models to generate integrated geometallurgical performance models.
  • Develop process design criteria for project flow sheets.
  • Interact with other technical groups (geology, mining, marketing, etc.) to advance project development goals.
  • Work closely with Engineering firms as an Owner’s metallurgical process representative.
  • Manage external technical consultants, including development of work scopes, tracking progress and deliverables, and ensuring objectives are met.
  • Provide technical support during project construction and implementation phases.
  • Develop commissioning plans and assist with the start-up of new process facilities.
  • Develop capital and operating cost estimates.
  • Participate in strategic technical reviews as required for the Company’s interests.
  • Implement value improving practices with a focus on safety, cost and economic parameters.
  • Manage projects according to approved scopes of work, schedule and budget.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements : Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, particularly mineral processing, chemical or metallurgical engineering.
  • 10+ years of work experience in mineral processing or relevant technical disciplines (e.g. hydrometallurgy, extractive metallurgy).
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer in Minnesota.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical project management in geometallurgy and process engineering pre-feasibility and feasibility studies
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision while simultaneously managing several priorities / projects to meet firm deadlines.
  • Able to cope with and manage change when dealing with projects.
  • Results-oriented with excellent organizational, planning and decision-making skills.
  • Valid drivers' license.
