Assistant Ethics Officer

The Assistant Ethics Officer is critical in the ethics office's strategic direction and daily operations. This position is an Assistant Department Head and District Officer position that manages staff and assists in the administration of the Ethics Department. The position is responsible for managing and overseeing the effective implementation of Metropolitan's ethics program consistent with the vision and direction set forth by the Ethics Officer.

Working closely with and at the direction of the Ethics Officer, the Assistant Ethics Officer provides high-level support in developing and executing strategic initiatives, business planning, and executive-level administration. This role is key in advancing the Ethics Officer's operational and strategic initiatives and the Ethics Office functions, including policy development, advisory services, compliance oversight, education, investigations and reviews, by promoting a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability across the organization. In addition to supporting operational and strategic oversight, the Assistant Ethics Officer is instrumental in driving operational performance, overseeing analytics, preparing board reports, and ensuring the ethics program remains responsive to evolving organizational needs and public expectations.

Schedule : 44 / 36, Monday through Friday / Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day, 8 hours per day every other Friday.

Hybrid : Metropolitan's current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational needs. In addition, a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented, will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience : Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and 8 years of progressively responsible directly related professional experience in ethics, government policy or other relevant experience; of which 4 years must have been in a project management or supervisory / management level, or an Advanced degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and 6 years of progressively responsible directly related professional experience in ethics, government policy or other relevant experience; of which 4 years must have been in a project management or supervisory / management level.

Relevant experience is defined as : performing work in support of ethics programs in an ethics or compliance department.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this position may be required to obtain and maintain the following certifications, licensing, and registrations :

Certificates

  • Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) designation from The Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics within 24 months of initial placement into the position. Failure to obtain the required certification within the 24-month grace period will result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the position and / or termination.

Licenses

  • Valid California Class C Driver License that allows you to drive in the course of your employment (required at time of application)

  • Public sector experience.
  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited college or university.
