Engineering Manager

Performs complex professional and administrative work in managing the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of County facilities and transportation infrastructure; provides engineering support to Facilities Operations; supervises staff engineers, project managers, and facility operators; performs related work as required. Work is performed under minimal supervision of the Deputy Director of Public Works.

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field with a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible engineering and project management experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Comprehensive knowledge of :

• engineering concepts and practices
• construction, particularly in the areas of engineering as it relates to the design of County infrastructure (vertical construction, building construction, etc.)
• modern management principles and procedures
• project management and the ability to prioritize and delegate work effectively
• local government, land use regulations, urban planning, and budget and procurement processes

Additional requirements include :

Responsibilities include attending committee and board meetings and representing the department; serving as a County liaison to VDOT. Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office equipment including calculators and computers, and surveying and drafting equipment. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
