The City of Roanoke, Virginia is seeking a well-rounded, innovative, strategic and responsive professional to serve as City Attorney. The City Attorney is the legal counsel to the City Council, the City Manager, the School Board, the Superintendent, and other city officials, including the Greater Roanoke Transit Company.
SUMMARY
The City Attorney provides general legal counsel to the City, oversees a team of 8–9 attorneys and administrative staff, prepares and reviews ordinances, resolutions, contracts and other legal documents, and manages the office budget and support contracts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages a staff of 5–6 Attorneys and 3 Administrative Legal Assistants in the day-to-day operations of a multi-practice law office. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
