Ashley River Classical Academy is hiring its founding faculty to teach its students when it opens in Charleston, SC in August 2025. Ashley River Classical Academy is a tuition-free, public, classical charter school. It is part of the Barney Charter School Initiative of Hillsdale College, a network of classical charter schools united by curriculum and purpose. Ashley River Classical Academy will initially open K-5 and grow to K-12 by adding one grade level each year. Ashley River Classical Academy is now accepting applications from new and experienced educators for all positions.

The faculty is entrusted with practical implementation of the mission of Ashley River Classical Academy : Our mission is to train the minds and hearts of our students through a content-rich classical education in the liberal arts and sciences, with a focus on fostering moral character and civic virtue.

The Literacy Coach works closely with the Head of School and Dean of Curriculum and Instruction to coach and mentor teachers, maintain consistency in outstanding instruction across classrooms, and ensure the academic success of all students. In addition to these responsibilities, the Literacy Coach will also serve as the Testing Coordinator, overseeing the administration of all school-wide assessments.

Requirements :

Primary duties and responsibilities include :

• Performing as the subject matter expert for the school’s literacy program
• Serve as the Testing Coordinator, overseeing the administration of all school-wide assessments.
• Coordinating the school’s progress monitoring and remediation / acceleration programs for literacy
• Providing guidance and coaching to teachers on literacy curriculum and instruction
• Researching and recommending instructional materials and best practices in literacy instruction
• Demonstrating and modeling excellent literacy instruction at all grade levels
• Assisting with the inventory of literacy materials and coordinating necessary purchases
• Planning and delivering high-quality professional development opportunities for faculty
• Consistently demonstrating the school’s Virtues : Prudence, Justice, Temperance, Courage, Responsibility, Compassion, and Perseverance
• Assisting with other responsibilities as needed
