Overview
UX Designer (Lead) for the Office of Technology and Innovation's NYC Child Care Digital Hub project. The goal is to create a single digital hub for families to learn about child care options and for providers to access information and services in New York City. The hub will include relevant content and features to support parents and childcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, UX researchers, content strategists, and developers to translate user needs into design solutions
- Develop prototypes and high-fidelity designs for the childcare hub website
- Conduct prototype testing for new features, analyze findings, and formulate design recommendations
- Collaborate with a content strategist to develop the overall content design strategy and enhance user experience
Mandatory skills / experience
At least 8 years of proven experience in user experience design, with a strong portfolio of user-friendly consumer-facing solutionsStrong sense of visual design and styling, including typography, spacing, and layoutProficiency in Figma with demonstrated ability to independently create end-to-end design solutionsStrong understanding of user-centered design processes, including mapping users\' digital journeys, mockups from low to high fidelity, and creating testable prototypes that enhance usability and accessibilityAbility to synthesize user research and data insights into design hypotheses and solutionsAbility to incorporate and synthesize feedback from teammates to improve designsExperience working with product and content strategists to translate outlines and requirements into design solutionsExperience collaborating with developers to test prototypes and perform visual quality assurance to ensure products are built as intendedStrong communication skills, with the ability to articulate design concepts to partners and cross-functional teams in non-technical languageDesirable skills / experience
Bachelor’s degree in Design, UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related fieldExperience working in cross-disciplinary teams and in public sector or government projectsAbility to drive design projects from concept to implementation with knowledge of design and research methodologiesExperience conducting usability testing or supporting its implementation, with strong analytical skills to translate insights into actionable design recommendationsFamiliarity with working within limited design systems and adapting components to meet user needs while considering technical feasibilityUnderstanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design practicesDemonstrates commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in design and collaboration with stakeholdersHow to apply
