Overview

Assistant Professor of Instruction - Communication. 9-month, full-time, non-tenure-earning position in the Department of Communication at the University of South Florida. Specialization in group communication or related courses.

A PhD in Communication is required. Applicants who are ABD will be accepted, but the degree must be conferred by the appointment start date on August 7, 2026. Salary is $55,000.

Responsibilities

  • Teach group communication courses face-to-face and online.
  • Coordinate undergraduate communication courses; experience or demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple sections preferred.
  • Teach additional courses in the department’s undergraduate curriculum, which may include business and professional communication such as interview communication.
  • Coordinate the general education group communication course and engage in curricular development and assessment in accordance with university and state requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications : Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Communication from an accredited institution at the time of appointment and demonstrate a record of teaching group communication or related courses. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction.

Preferred Qualifications : Preference will be given to applicants with :

  • A record of teaching courses in business and professional communication (e.g., interview communication)
  • Experience with curriculum development and / or assessment
  • Experience with coordinating or assisting in coordinating multi-section courses
  • Experience with online teaching
