Overview
Under general direction of the principal and in collaboration with the media specialist and the media center team, the media assistant supports and promotes the vision and mission of School Library Media Programs. The media assistant creates a warm and welcoming environment in the media center for all students, staff and the school community. The position works directly with students on instruction pertaining to information literacy skills, research skills, accessing online services, and access to library resources. The media assistant helps manage the school-wide library media catalog and performs daily routine operations of the media center. The media assistant may supervise student aides and parent volunteers and help orient and train new media assistants when applicable. The role requires learning media center procedures, being detail-oriented, and assuming responsibility for routine media center operations. It also requires the ability to learn current technology independently and to communicate this knowledge to students and staff. Physical demands include lifting and moving books, audiovisual equipment, and other objects weighing 25-30 lbs, and occasional operation of keyboard devices for extended periods.

High School diploma or GED required. Associates degree preferred or completion of 30 semester hours of college coursework and / or one year of experience working with children in instructional situations if no associate degree.Experience using computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, e-mail, Internet) and experience working or volunteering in a library environment preferred.Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree may be considered.CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS : None#J-18808-Ljbffr
