Overview
The Michigan Department of Corrections is a Michigan Veteran's Affairs Agency (MVAA) Gold Level Veteran Friendly Employer. MDOC employs nearly 1,500 veterans and actively serving military members across the department. The Department offers benefits and services to support military and veteran employees, spouses, and families.
Health Information Manager independently manages the health information (medical record) services for the Health Care Unit. This position is responsible for managing and securing patient records, ensuring compliance with federal mandates for electronic storage of patient information, and the creation, maintenance, storage, and release of all health records within the facility. It also assists with Quality Improvement audits, data entry, coordination and tracking of specialty health care appointments, and training employees in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Programmatic direction is provided by the Health Informatics Coordinator from the Bureau of Health Care Services.
Education
Possession of an associate\'s degree in health information or medical record technology.
Experience
Certification by the American Health Information Management Association as a Registered Health Information Technician or Registered Health Information Administrator.
The Department of Corrections will not hire individuals who have been convicted of a felony or who have felony charges pending, in accordance with Public Act 140 of 1996.

Training
New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees returning after more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
