Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery - Obstetrics night shift position in Illinois, requiring a current IL RN license and advanced perinatal certifications.
Responsibilities
Work in an acute care hospital setting within a dedicated OB (Obstetrics) unitUnit features 4 L&D beds, 4 triage beds, 6 postpartum beds, and 1 OR suitePatient population includes low-risk OB patients, stable newborns ≥36 weeks, and high-risk OB patients followed by MFMLevel 1 perinatal / nursery designationRatios follow AWHONN guidelines12-hour night shifts with a schedule that includes 3 weekends in a 6-week periodHoliday rotation required if the assignment includes a holiday periodAssignment length is 13 weeksUses EPIC and OBIX for electronic medical records and Philips fetal monitoring systemFloating may be required to other units in supporting RN rolesResponsibilities include providing care to OB patients and newborns, assisting with C-sections, and acting as circulator in the ORMay be floated to other units including as a sitter or helping hands for high-risk or behavioral health patientsOB techs / certified nurse aides and surgical team provide support, with backup from main OR staffOB physician is on-call 24 / 7 and a newborn pediatrics physician is also available on callRespiratory therapy equipment includes Neopuff, heated high flow nasal cannula, and CPAP for newbornsHospital-provided scrubs required for C-section cases, otherwise dress code is nurse's choiceUnit-specific orientation of 2-3 days is providedDrug screening is required prior to employmentRequirements
Active IL RN license or proof of application in processMinimum of 1 year recent L&D or OB nursing experienceCertifications required : ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NRP, Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM or EFM)Experience with stabilization of newborns and circulating for C-sectionsAble to titrate drips such as Pitocin and MagnesiumFamiliarity with central monitoring for fetal and newborn / adult monitoringBenefits
