Overview

The University of Iowa’s Tippie College of Business seeks a Marketing Writer to join the Collegiate Marketing Team. We’re a team of technologically progressive, passionate brand advocates who use data to drive decisions, including content development. Your mission is to create messages that inspire and guide the next generation of business professionals through every phase of their journey – from research to application to graduation to career development. We’re looking for a well‑rounded writer who can help deliver content across multiple channels via research-based blogs and articles, student stories, print and digital advertising, and marketing emails.

  • You get brand. You can write in a brand’s unique voice, balance informative and entertaining copy with conversion, and develop creative concepts that represent and push the brand forward.
  • The web is your wheelhouse. You’re familiar with SEO best practices, writing website copy and blog content, and understand information architecture and content hierarchy.

Key Areas Of Responsibilities And Specific Job Tasks

Writing / Communication Content

  • Develop and write strategic content marketing pieces such as research-based articles, informative blog / newsletter posts, infographics, and interview write-ups.
  • Help achieve branding and enrollment goals via relevant, timely messages.
  • Create content aligned with buyer journeys and personas, with clear calls-to-action that advance the audience in decision-making.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Tippie’s programs to identify and fill content gaps based on audience needs.
  • Adhere to Tippie’s brand voice and tone.
  • brainstorm and collaborate with the marketing team on new ideas and strategies.
  • Help develop and adhere to a content calendar.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to advise and distribute content across marketing platforms.
  • Produce copy for other materials as needed.
  • Editing / Proofing

  • Edit, proofread, and fact check all content.
  • Research / Information Gathering

  • Research and monitor emerging trends and best practices in higher education marketing.

    Remote within Iowa

    This position is eligible for remote work within Iowa and requires a work arrangement form at start. Arrangements are reviewed annually and must comply with remote work policies.

    Salary : $45,000–$50,000

    Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferably in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or a closely related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Required Qualifications

  • At least one year of relevant marketing writing experience.
  • Creativity and ability to tailor the writing style to the audience.
  • Keen eye for detail, with excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively while handling multiple projects.
  • Understanding of adhering to style guides and brand standards.
  • Solid understanding of how design and copy work together.
  • Experience interviewing sources and extracting interesting stories.
  • Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Track record of using research and data to bolster creative decisions.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work under deadline while remaining positive amid feedback.
