Exposure & Training provided through internship
We want to enhance our career curriculum by providing students with increased opportunities to make connections and apply learned skills across settings. We would augment the learning process by providing meaningful engagement that extends outside the traditional school setting through field trips, work-simulated activities. This would increase in-depth engagement, motivation, and real-world applications by allowing students to take part in work-site tours and volunteer work. Students would further their career development and exploration through observation and learning about job descriptions and requirements in various job settings. Volunteer and intern work would also allow students to practice soft and hard skills in a variety of real-world settings. Workplace Readiness Training will be completed through employability and life skills classes. In these classes, students will learn about interpersonal communication, active listening, time management, and leadership skills. Students will learn time management, financial literacy, disability rights in the workplace, computer applications, job search, and interviewing skills. Students will learn how to complete applications and write resumes, and cover letters.
We would expand on our current work, simulated job rotation, by providing access to gain a variety of employability skills. We would like to provide options for students to further work readiness skills by providing structured exposure for opportunities to practice self-advocacy, social, communication, and interpersonal skills within the school and out in the community. We would like to expand their work readiness and life skills by providing access to presentations, workshops, and / or certifications of interest (i.e. CPR, First Aid, Food Safety, Driver's Education, Disability Awareness, ADA, Financial Literacy etc...) These work-based learning and work readiness training programs will give students valuable experiences. As a result, students will be better equipped and prepared to transition into the workforce.
