POSITION DESCRIPTION :

Think Tank is seeking a Seasonal Sea-Going Technician Level I to assist NOAA with annual fishery-independent monitoring surveys in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean . These positions focus on field sampling and data collection at sea -no land-based support between trips is required.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Participate in 5–140 days at sea annually , standing up to 12-hour watches .
  • Assist with sorting, identifying, measuring, dissecting, and sampling fish and invertebrates, including age, growth, maturity, genetics, and diet studies.
  • Collect and annotate optical survey data (image review, species ID, organism measurements).
  • Maintain scientific protocols to ensure high-quality data collection.
  • Support general shipboard sampling activities, organization, and clean-up .

    • REQUIREMENTS :

  • Experience identifying fish and invertebrate species in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean .
  • Experience working aboard research vessels.
  • Familiarity with bottom trawls and / or scallop and clam dredges.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts at sea .
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to also work independently.
