Sheriff's Department Position

This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Sheriff's Department. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months. Typical Duties

  • Plan, assign and supervise the work of staff engaged in receiving and processing civil subpoenas, civil process, garnishments, levies and related documents.
  • Conduct group or individual conferences with staff to discuss or interpret departmental rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Confer with staff on the more difficult civil processes, procedures and bookkeeping problems.
  • Review the quantity and quality of work performed by unit workers and develop, implement and monitor plans to correct substandard performance.
  • Establish and prepare departmental case records for the service of civil subpoenas, civil process, garnishments, levies and related documents.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and / or license which are required and equivalent to the following.

Education : Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, preferably supplemented with bookkeeping coursework.

Experience : Two (2) years of experience as a Civil Clerk in a Sheriff's Records Division or four (4) years of general clerical bookkeeping experience in a legal office.

Knowledge of : Legal forms and terminology. Policies and procedures for receiving and filing legal documents in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Double and single entry bookkeeping methods. Procedures to receive and disburse funds.

Skill / Ability to : Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers. Operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment. Perform advanced bookkeeping work including preparing and reconciling financial reports and making adjusting and closing entries. Read, interpret and analyze legal and financial documents, accounts and records.
