Job Description :
The University at Albany, State University of New York, seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor in Counseling Psychology. This position will be housed in the Division of Counseling Psychology, within the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology, with teaching responsibilities in the APA-accredited Ph.D. program in Counseling Psychology and MPCAC-accredited Master's program in Mental Health Counseling. We seek a scholar with an active and productive program of research, with a strong promise of obtaining external funding; the area of research focus is open.
Candidates should be able to teach or oversee undergraduate and graduate courses in one or more of the following areas : theories of counseling, group counseling, behavior disorders, vocational psychology, assessment, substance use treatment and prevention, clinical practicum, and / or internship, as well as other graduate counseling courses as needed. The ability to teach core courses in psychology is desirable, although not required. Candidates must be sensitive to the needs of and possess an interest in working in an academic community that is diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation or identity, disability status, and protected veteran status.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conducting innovative research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals; securing external funding to support programmatic research; rigorous teaching of undergraduate, doctoral, and master's courses (online and in-person); advising doctoral and master's students; chairing and serving on doctoral dissertation committees; presenting research at professional meetings; supervising doctoral-level practica at the University's training clinic; taking on or sharing leadership roles within the Division; and service to the Department, School, University, community, and profession.
