  • Pay Rate : Rate may vary due to local or non-local contracted rates : $58-63 combined Rate of pay. ( Pay packages are a combination of taxable hourly rates, tax free allowances for travel, housing, and meal allowances)

ICU / INTENSIVE Care UNIT / CRITICAL CARE RN Job Description

  • Assessing patients :  ICU nurses evaluate patients' conditions, take vital signs, and document symptoms and medical histories
  • Administering treatments :  ICU nurses provide treatments to help patients recover and prevent infection, such as administering medications, setting up IVs, and performing diagnostic tests
  • Monitoring patients :  ICU nurses monitor patients' fluid intake and output, and watch for changes in their condition
  • Responding to emergencies :  ICU nurses respond to medical emergencies and call doctors when needed
  • Collaborating with the care team :  ICU nurses work with doctors, specialists, and other medical professionals to create and implement care plans
  • Educating patients and families :  ICU nurses provide information and support to patients and their families
  • Managing wounds :  ICU nurses treat wounds and help bedridden patients change positions to prevent sores
  • Maintaining records :  ICU nurses maintain detailed patient records and manage reports
  • Medical Administration :

    o    Administer prescribed medications and treatments, observing for side effects or reactions.

    o    Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.

    o    Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare providers to coordinate patient care plans.

    o    Prepare patients for surgical procedures and ensure proper recovery after surgery.

    Monitoring and Reporting :

    o    Observe patients’ responses to treatments, changes in symptoms, and complications.

    o    Report any significant changes in patient conditions to physicians or senior nurses.

    o    Maintain knowledge of patient charts and documentation according to hospital policy.

    Patient Education :

    o    Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and recovery processes.

    o    Provide guidance on home care, medication regimens, and lifestyle modifications.

    o    Infection Control and Safety :

    o    Adhere to strict infection control protocols.

    o    Monitor patients for signs of infection, particularly after surgery.

    o    Ensure the safety and comfort of patients during their hospital stay.

    Team Collaboration :

    o    Work as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, which may include doctors, physical therapists, and other nurses.

    o    Participate in shift handoffs and communicate effectively with other team members about patient needs and status.

    Emergency Response :

    o    Respond appropriately to medical emergencies, including assisting in life-saving procedures when required.

    o    Use critical thinking skills to assess and react to changes in patient status.

    Qualifications and Requirements :

  • Education : Registered Nurse (RN) with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Licensure : Valid state RN license.
  • Certifications : BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) may be required.
  • Experience : Previous experience in a medical-surgical unit is often preferred.
  • Skills : Strong clinical assessment skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Work Environment :

  • Work is typically performed in hospital settings such as medical-surgical units, post-operative recovery units, or step-down units.
  • Nurses may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the hospital's staffing needs.
  • The job may involve standing for extended periods, lifting patients, and other physical demands.
  • Physical and Emotional Demands :
