Skilled Laborer - Building Maintenance
Employee is responsible for the maintenance, construction, carpentry, and plumbing repairs throughout all City owned facilities (streets, sidewalks, grounds, parks and trees) with the use of heavy equipment such as a backhoe, front end loader, dump truck and similar equipment, and assists in digging ditches, patching streets, and the overall completion of public works projects.
Essential Job Functions
- Maintains grounds and buildings at city-owned properties and facilities.
- Repair water and sewer leaks as necessary; operates specialized equipment to make repairs in a safe and efficient manner.
- Installs new service lines for houses and commercial properties.
- Maintains the condition of the water distribution and pumping system.
- Installs and repairs fences.
- Empties trash cleans bathrooms and waxes floors as necessary.
- Moves building contents from one building to another.
- Maintains regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work.
- Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
- Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and / or on weekends.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Must have high school diploma, or equivalent (GED)One (1) to three (3) years of related work experience to perform such job.Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable preferably Class "B".Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.Bilingual English / Spanish Preferred.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Read and interpret instructions regarding the safe and efficient use of equipment.Pay careful attention to details.Effective motor skills necessary to operate department vehicles, equipment, tools, and machinery in a safe and efficient manner.Recognize unsafe working conditions to ensure that appropriate safety precautions are taken to ensure employee safety.Operate specialized equipment such as a bore machine and cleaning equipment in a safe and efficient manner.Working Conditions / Physical Demands
Constantly performs work outdoor on a variety of public works projects.Exposed to equipment / machinery, noise, odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, oil, dirt and / or grease.Working under extreme weather conditions, excessive heat, and / or excessive cold for long periods of time.Standing / walking most of the work period, moving in / about construction sites over rough terrain.This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.
