Residence Life Coordinator (RLC)

Colorado School of Mines has an opening for a Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) who is responsible for supporting student leadership experiences across all residential communities. The RLC serves on the professional staff team for the Department of Residence Life and reports to an Assistant Director of Residence Life. Responsibilities include advising the Campus Living Student Association, supporting Community Councils, and acting as an interim RLC in the event of a short-term vacancy. The RLC must possess excellent decision-making, organization, advising, and leadership skills. This position is a 12-month live-in position that requires flexible scheduling designed to address participation in the on-call rotation throughout the year and during weekdays, weekends, and holidays including fall break, Thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring break. Additionally, this position may be called upon to support vacancies on our professional team and flex role responsibilities on a temporary basis.

The Office of Residence Life is a fast-paced, student-centered, collaborative environment that is growing to serve more students. We are an office of 18 professionals and 100+ student staff, who work hard to make Residence Life and the Mines campus a positive community for all students and for each other. We take our jobs very seriously, but don't take ourselves too seriously. A sense of humor and the ability to be adaptable are important for this role. A positive attitude and desire to contribute to a team and to the campus community are also imperative for this role. No single day looks the same, and often our carefully curated schedules get thrown out the window when opportunities to serve our students come up.

Primary Responsibilities

Advise Campus Student Living Association (CLSA) - 40%

  • Serve as the primary advisor for CLSA, an organization that serves as a programming and advocacy body for all on-campus residents.
  • Advise the executive leadership team through regular 1 : 1 meetings, retreats, and training. Supporting their growth and development individually and as a team.
  • As needed, hold the executive leadership team accountable to organizational and Departmental expectations.
  • Attend weekly general assembly and executive team meetings, as well as events planned by the association.
  • Support the planning and execution of events facilitated by CLSA to ensure applicable Mines and Department processes and policies are adhered to.
  • Coordinate with vendors, in partnership with an Assistant Director, for organizational fundraising initiatives.
  • Support student leaders' participation, engagement, and travel to regional and national conferences and organizations.
  • Oversee and advise the annual recruitment and election process for the executive leadership team.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a summer CLSA Intern.
  • Oversee the use of the CLSA budget in accordance with the organizational mission and institutional procurement and purchasing guidelines.
  • Support and advise the regular revision and ongoing development of the CLSA constitution and other governing documents.

Community Council Development and Support - 25%

  • Oversee and advise the annual recruitment and election process for Community Councils, student led organizations for each residential community that serve as a programming and advocacy board.
  • Support the onboarding, growth, and professional development of Community Council executive members through Community Council Day and other regular training experiences.
  • Facilitate regular training and development for Community Council Advisors.
  • Support the regular revision and ongoing development of Community Council Constitutions and other governing documents.
  • Oversee and advise the annual recruitment and election process for the Community Councils.
  • Support the planning and execution of events facilitated by Community Councils, in partnership with their advisors, to ensure applicable Mines and Department processes and policies are adhered to.
  • Attend Community Council meetings and events as needed.
  • On-Call and Crisis Response - 15%

  • Serve as the on-call professional staff on campus in the on-call rotation for the Department.
  • Serve as a Case Manager for student conduct cases.
  • Additional Duties

    Duties will include up to 20% of overall work and can change as deemed necessary by the Associate Director of Residence Life. Possible collateral duties include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Participate in department level committees, initiatives, and task forces including staff recruitment / selection, training and development, staff evaluations, etc.
  • Serve on Campus Wide Committees and initiatives.
  • Professional development that contributes to your daily work and the department is supported and encouraged.
  • Assist with department-wide efforts to recruit, select, and train student and full-time staff.
  • Minimum Qualifications :

    Education and Experience :

  • A master's degree from an accredited four-year institution of higher education and experience working in an educational or community development environment.
  • OR

  • A master's degree from an accredited four-year institution of higher education in student affairs administration or a related field.
  • Degree must be completed by start of employment.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development of self and others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team setting.
  • Outstanding administrative, planning, and communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

    Education and Experience :

  • Experience working with college students in an educational setting as a paraprofessional or professional.
  • Experience working with college students in residential setting.
  • Experience advising or supervising.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of student development theory.
  • Ability to utilize online platforms such as Maxient, eRezLife, StarRez, and / or Banner.
  • Salary and Benefits

    $56,485 - $59,152
