Overview
The Advanced Sources and Detector (ASD) Project seeks engineering support to execute final design definition and facilitate technical procurements for the assembly, installation and commissioning of the Scorpius accelerator, downstream transport (DST), and ancillary systems. The project involves fabrication, installation, and commissioning of an ~20 MeV linear induction electron accelerator, to diagnose subcritical experiments at NNSS in an underground complex (U1a; 963 feet below grade) as part of the Enhanced Capabilities for Subcritical Experiments Program. The position will be filled at the R&D Engineer 3 or 4 level, with higher level responsibilities assigned if selected for the 4 level.

What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements :
Electrical Engineering
Demonstrated experience designing electrical power distribution, instrumentation, and controls systems in industrial settings using AutoCad Electrical. Demonstrated experience creating high-quality electrical schematics, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, and cable drawings using AutoCad Electrical. Basic knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listings.
Electrical Testing
Advanced knowledge of general test equipment and experience using DVM, power meters, oscilloscopes, signal and pulse generators, network analyzers, and measurements of analog and digital signals. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting electrical equipment. Ability to generate documentation pertaining to design, procurement, testing and QA / QC.
Project Leadership & Practices
Experience working in a fast-paced project environment to meet technical needs and project deliverables. Familiar with following project processes for design, configuration control, procurement, and nonconformance reports.
Communication and Teamwork
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with coworkers, vendors, customers, and management. Proven record of leading projects involving diverse team members.
Education / Experience for R&D Engineer 3
Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 6 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.

In addition to the above requirements, qualification at the higher level requires :
Accelerator Engineering Expertise
Extensive experience designing electrical power distribution, instrumentation, and controls systems in industrial settings using AutoCad Electrical. Leadership Experience
Significant experience leading a team and collaborating with other technical experts to overcome engineering challenges.
Education / Experience for R&D Engineer 4
Master's Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution and 12 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. A Ph.D. may be preferred.
Desired Qualifications :
Knowledge of and experience designing and / or operating technology systems associated with linear induction accelerators; experience at one or more NNSA design labs.
Work Environment and Location
Work Location : Onsite in Los Alamos, NM. Management may determine other locations.
Position commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position to be eligible to apply for posted jobs laboratory-wide. The position commitment for this role is 1 year.
