Position Summary
BD Diagnostic is seeking a field-based Automation Service Engineer to provide on-site support in the Boise, ID area. This position maintains relationships with an assigned set of customers to achieve customer and BD goals. The role involves identifying, evaluating, resolving, or escalating customer difficulties, acting as a customer advocate, and providing on-site support to BD Lab Automation customers including installation, corrective maintenance, preventative maintenance, removals, and other support as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Onsite support for installing and servicing complex diagnostic laboratory automation instrumentation with minimal direct supervision. Respond to emergency customer requests via dispatch by the Technical Service Center and complete all assigned tasks in accordance with ISO and GMP standards.
- Provide clear, timely, and effective communications to customers about service expectations, ETA, status of ongoing service activities, and service follow-up calls in support of BD CX initiatives.
- Utilize troubleshooting techniques and analytical thinking to diagnose hardware / software issues, determine corrective action, and complete system repairs.
- Upgrade systems to enable compatible software on all computers.
- Work independently, diagnosing and solving with schematics, diagrams, service manuals, and other documentation.
- Actively maintain and implement service documentation and provide feedback to improve documentation efficiency within the lab automation field service organization.
- Finish service documentation as required or requested by other business functions in accordance with GMP requirements.
- Report and document all customer complaints in appropriate systems for resolution and investigation.
- Lead trunk stock inventory within limits established by the Spare Parts Inventory list.
- Maintain calibrated test equipment and tools with current calibration dates.
- Use company credit cards with good judgment and within established expense guidelines.
- Maintain and use the company vehicle per fleet requirements, including maintenance and organization at all times.
- Complete administrative requirements within expected timeframes.
- Provide on-call support per published schedules or on short notice as required.
- Maintain a professional appearance and support an inclusive and diverse work environment.
- Adhere to regulatory requirements including HIPAA, OSHA, and FDA.
- Participate in vendor credentialing programs to gain and maintain access to customer facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Required :
Bachelor of Science in a technical field or 5+ years of proven equivalent experience. Fields preferred : Electrical / Electronics / Informatics / Mechatronics / Biomedical.Strong understanding of electronics, electro-mechanical devices (Mechatronics), PLCs, and pneumatics.Intermediate knowledge of information systems networking design and setup.Intermediate understanding of operating systems and ability to coordinate software upgrades with customer IT and lab leadership.Understanding of basic computer security concepts and best practices.Proficient in software installations and upgrades.Good verbal and written communication skills and outstanding customer service.Attention to detail and strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.Valid state driver's license with at least 3 years driving history and compliance with BD safety standards.Ability to work flexible hours and travel to various US customer locations; available for on-call as needed.Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, outside the home geographic area, based on business needs.Desired :
Expertise in Robotics.5+ years in installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of sophisticated instrumentation.Knowledge of Lab Information Systems (LIS) and database management.A+, Microsoft, or Cisco accreditation advantageous.Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 30 to 40 lb objects; repetitive manual tasks; 8–10 hour workdays.Ability to sit, kneel, squat, bend, and stand; operate tools and assemble / repair instrument suites.Ability to push / pull up to 70 lbs; carry a 30 lb pack for up to 1 hour.Ability to drive up to 6 hours and work in adverse weather; climb ladders and wear a respirator if required (fit test and spirometry).BD emphasizes on-site collaboration and culture, with some roles requiring minimum in-office presence. Remote or field-based roles will specify arrangements in the posting.
