DETAILS OF POSITION

Location : La Paloma Group Home / Part-time / Weekdays and Weekends / Hours : Varies / Starting rate : $17.50 per hour DOE

PURPOSE OF POSITION

VTC Enterprises dba LOVARC has been supporting adults with developmental disabilities since opening our doors in the 1960s.Under the supervision of the Residential Manager, the Direct Care Staff is responsible for supporting the daily care, personal development, and training of individuals with developmental disabilities. This role ensures the safety, well-being, and quality of life of residents through hands-on support, implementation of individual program plans, and the promotion of a positive, inclusive, and structured living environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, a person must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.Support residents in building interpersonal and social skills by encouraging positive behavior and appropriate social interactions.

  • Implement individualized program plans and quarterly objectives as directed.
  • Provide supervision during training sessions, daily routines, and recreational or social activities.
  • Monitor resident progress daily and maintain accurate documentation, records, and charts.
  • Record observations, incidents, and resident behaviors in the facility log book during each shift.
  • Maintain open communication with the Residential Manager and participate in regular check-ins or team discussions.
  • Promote educational and recreational opportunities tailored to each resident's abilities and interests.
  • Serve as a role model for appropriate behavior, appearance, hygiene, and language.
  • Advocate for residents' rights and support normalization principles in all aspects of care.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming home environment by assisting residents with chores and completing assigned staff responsibilities.
  • Prepare meals in accordance with residents dietary plans and medical requirements.
  • Provide continuous supervision of residents, remaining on duty until properly relieved by another staff member.
  • Transport residents to appointments, outings, or other activities as appropriate.
  • Remain on duty during emergencies or disasters until formally relieved or dismissed by a supervisor.
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings, training sessions, and in-service programs.
  • Report all incidents involving injuries, illnesses, property damage, or other critical events to the Residential Manager, followed by completion of an incident report.
  • Administer first aid when necessary.
  • Dispense and document medications in accordance with licensing and agency procedures.
  • Advocate for residents and represent the organization in supporting improved quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Attend Individual Service Plan (ISP) and Human Rights Committee (HRC) meetings when requested.
  • Maintain positive relationships with residents families, day program staff, consultants, and regional center coordinators.
  • Follow all policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Report suspected abuse according to reporting policy and procedures.
  • Implement emergency or evacuation procedures during drills or actual emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Residential Manager.

Qualifications

Education and / or experience : Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. 15-18 college units with course work to include studies in counseling, social work, special education or related field, preferred. Minimum 6 months experience working, directly or indirectly, with persons with developmental disabilities, preferred.

Communication skills : Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals or reports in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English. Ability to remember oral or written instructions provided by others. Ability to speak effectively before groups of Individuals served or coworkers.

Interpersonal skills : Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with clients served, coworkers and management. Establish rapport and gain the trust of others. Interact diplomatically with the public. Foster a stimulating, accepting learning environment. Enhance program in which individuals with disabilities can thrive.

Self-management skills : Perform effectively in environments with frequent workload changes and competing demands. Set priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities. Work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction. Ability to work conscientiously and proactively in order to provide excellent care, training, supervision and a safe environment.

Reasoning ability : Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions. Ability to think through the consequences of a decision prior to making it. Ability to recognize an emergency situation and take appropriate actions. Make appropriate job decisions following policies and past precedents.

Computer skills : Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software and ability to properly use client database.

Certificates, licenses, registrations : Obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR and CPI Certifications. Must have a valid drivers license with an insurable record. Must have an insured vehicle available for use during the course of employment.

Other skills and abilities : Must meet and maintain Community Care Licensing criminal history criteria.
