Position Summary : The Pharmacy Tech, plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacist to ensure the accurate preparation and dispensing of medications.

Position Requirements
Education : High School Degree or GED required.
Licensure : N / A
Certification : Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certification required.
Experience : 2+ years of experience working as a part of a pharmacy team is preferred.
Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Understanding drug names, dosages, and pharmacy operations is fundamental.
- Competence in organizing inventory, monitoring medication supplies, and notifying pharmacist of shortages.
- Effectively interacting with pharmacists, healthcare professionals, and patients to collect necessary information and provide clear instructions.
- Managing multiple tasks efficiently, such as preparing medications, processing insurance claims and maintaining accurate records.
- Responding effectively to changing workloads and emergency situations.
- Working cohesively with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to deliver optimal patient care.
Essential Job Functions
Assists the Pharmacist with responsibilities in accordance with the organizations mission, policy, and any applicable laws.Assists in activities of the Pharmacy Department and takes appropriate action as necessary to ensure efficient and effective operation. Primary duties may include, but are not limited to :Assists the department with purchasing and inventory maintenance of pharmaceuticals.
Prepares liquid medicines, ointments, powders, tablets and other medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.Compounds prescribed medicines, and packages and labels them under the supervision of a pharmacistRecords prescriptions dispensed and helps to maintain an accurate record keeping system.Interpret and fill physicians' prescriptions for discharging patients under the supervision of a pharmacistPerform order entry of prescriptions into the required pharmacy databaseContact physicians and benefits providers as necessary to process a prescriptionAnswers and triages telephone calls.Complete third-party insurance forms and other paperworkMaintains professional attitude with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel. Safeguards and retains confidentiality of patient and employee information, using only as needed to perform legitimate duties. Safeguards passwords and other authorizations, which allow access to information.Maintains professional attitude with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel while assuring confidentiality of patient and other hospital information. Complies with all HIPAA procedures.Repackages and labels bulk oral solid and liquid drugs into unit-dose form under pharmacist supervision. Reconstitutes drugs and prepares compounds under pharmacist supervision.Maintains accurate repackaging log under pharmacist supervision.Maintains the various work areas of the department and equipment / utensils in a neat, clean, and orderly appearance.Assists in activities of the Pharmacy Department and takes appropriate action as necessary to ensure efficient and effective operation. Secondary duties may include, but are not limited to :Prepares, fills and distributes unit-dose medication.Assists in the preparation of sterile intravenous admixtures under pharmacist supervision.Maintains adequate levels of stock drugs in the Omnicell Dispensing System on nursing unitsChecks for discontinued medications on the nursing unit. Returns unused medications to the pharmacy.Performs and documents inspections of the general pharmacy inventory to ensure that expired or otherwise unusable drugs are removed and replaced when appropriate.Resupplies emergency drugs to crash carts and heart carts under pharmacist supervision.Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and JCAHO regulationsComply with safety activities, policies and procedures and regulatory requirements such as OSHA and The Joint Commission.Employee is responsible for all other duties as assigned for which competency has been demonstratedPhysical requirements : This position is classified as Light Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and / or a negligible amount of force constantly (66% of the time) to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work.
