At North Sky Communications, as a Fiber I Splicer, you will properly terminate, splice, and prep fiber optic cables within a telecommunications system. You should be familiar with telecommunication network structure, fiber optic cable, splice enclosures and the functionality of each; perform OTDR and test fusion splicing equipment. You should be able to read and interpret existing fiber matrices; troubleshoot and perform maintenance to resolve signal problems.
What You'll Do As a Splicer I Fiber
- Splice overhead, underground or submarine multiple conductor cables.
- Climb utility poles or towers, use truck-mounted lift-bucket or descend into underground vaults.
- Cut sheath from installed cable to gain access to defective cable connections, as well as cut and peel sheath and insulation from newly installed cable and conductors.
- Test (traces or phase out) each conductor to identify corresponding conductors in adjoining cables, using test lamp or bell system.
- Read and interpret drawings, maps, blueprints diagrams, etc. (mechanical, electrical, digital).
- Operate technical equipment, including OTDR and fusion slicing equipment, and ensure proper functionality.
- Complete daily production reports of work performed.
- Respond to emergency call outs as needed, including nights and weekends, but not limited to holidays and extending days.
- Work in cramped and / or enclosed spaces for extended periods.
- Must have knowledge of fiber optic color codes; interprets prints in underground and aerial environments.
- Work overnight and weekends as needed.
What You'll Need
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a fiber splicer with experience on outside plant or system installations while working from blueprints, specifications, and system documentation.Ability to apply reasoning and understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.Ability to work in emergencies at night and weekends if needed, including holidays and extending days; ability to work in all weather conditions.High school diploma or equivalent.Valid Driver's License; CDL License is a plus.Authorized to work in the United States.Able to lift and pull up to 80 lbs.Ability to be on-call.Must be self-motivated and able to work within time constraints.Physical Abilities & Exposures
Routinely : stand, crouch, climb, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms in spaces both high and low.Occasionally : lift or move up to 50 pounds.Salary Range
$24.00 - $38.00 / hour, depending on experience
