Materials Handler Leader
This position is located in the Warehouse area of the Logistics Service in a Veteran Affairs Health Care System (VA HCS) and supported catchment area. The position is located at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center, physically located in St. Cloud, MN, performing warehouse work. The incumbent serves as a lead over a group of Materials Handlers within a warehouse setting. Responsibilities major duties include, but not limited to :
Leading crew of materials handlers as a regular and recurring part of the job in order to accomplish assigned projects and daily operational functions.
Ensuring all safety and housekeeping procedures are followed.
Ensuring workers are aware of trade techniques and practices, and explains safety precautions to be followed while setting up machinery and equipment and operating related vehicles.
Ensuring the warehouse has the needed supplies, equipment, and tools to operate on a daily basis.
Reporting to supervisor on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays.
Answering questions of supervisors on overall work operations and problems.
Ensuring workers are briefed on instructions received from supervisors, and gets work started by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the crew.
Working along with other workers and sets the pace.
Demonstrating proper work method.
Obtaining needed information or decisions from supervisors on problems that come up during the work.
Verifying the space and execution plans of materials handlers are on hand and conform to established leadership guidelines.
Working with Engineering to ensure floor plan and overhead changes are reflected in Medical Center blueprints and schematic designs.
Ensuring Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and infections control standards are maintained at all times.
Maintaining the flow of the warehouse by moving, delivering, shelving, storing, and inventorying materials and equipment per appropriate procedure.
Working in the Receiving / Distribution area of Logistics located in the warehouse.
Work Schedule : Monday - Friday, 7 : 30am - 4 : 00pm

Physical Requirements : You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position.
Work involves considerable walking, pushing, and pulling a variety of carts and materials handling equipment.
Works offloading and loading trucks, lifting products on and off-shelves, handling boxes frequently weighing over 40 pounds.
Frequently handles equipment, furniture, and materials of an awkward and heavier nature in excess of 100 pounds.
These items are typically handled using specialized equipment and / or assistance of coworkers.
Greater physical effort may be required on projects involving the movement of large quantities of product over an extended period of time including, but not limited to, turn-ins, large shipments and deliveries.
While operating vehicles, the position may be required to exert a greater level of physical exertion while backing and turning trucks, operating forklifts, or hand trucks on uneven terrains and uncertain conditions.
Working Conditions : Required to work in storage buildings, pods, trailers, and warehouses that may be hot, cold, drafty, and poorly lighted.
Will work outdoors, on docks, making deliveries in all types of weather conditions during all seasons.
Hazardous materials may be encountered in daily work activities.
