What does this role do at HCPro?
The Coding Regulatory Education Specialist plays a key role in developing and delivering comprehensive educational content tailored to inpatient, outpatient, and pro fee coding professionals. Responsibilities include creating original materials and presentations for bootcamps, webinars, e-learning platforms, assessments, and written publications. This individual provides both virtual and on-site instruction, fostering interactive and engaging learning experiences. Occasional travel is required to support clients and facilitate nationwide educational sessions.
A large component of the role is to develop customized education tailored to client needs. Offerings include monthly custom education and on-demand "ask the expert" Q&A services for organizations ranging from individual provider offices to large health systems.
HCPro coding education is offered in various formats and lengths, with a focus on :
- Inpatient hospital coding : ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, DRGs
- Hospital outpatient and pro fee coding : ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS II
- Risk adjustment methodologies : CMS-HCCs for hospitals, health systems, and physicians
HCPro education emphasizes practical application, requiring advanced proficiency in medical coding across multiple care settings. Instruction is grounded in coding guidelines and authoritative sources, including AHA's Coding Clinic for ICD-10-CM / PCS , AMA's CPT Assistant , and AHA's Coding Clinic for HCPCS .
Primary Duties and Responsibilities :
Develop educational content including learning objectives, course agendas, and materials for various learning platforms such as bootcamps, webinars, and e-learning programs.Collaborate with peers to update, refine, and maintain course materials to ensure accuracy and relevance.Deliver educational instruction to clients and foster a supportive, interactive learning environment through effective instructional methods.Act as an in-house support resource for medical coding-related functions, including participation in conferences, summit meetings, and other corporate events as needed.Serve as a subject matter expert in coding concepts, contributing to articles, books, podcasts, and other industry-related content, while continuously seeking opportunities for professional development.Stay informed about current market trends, regulations, and standards within the coding industry and actively contribute to the improvement of internal processes and procedures related to educational content development and delivery.Develop and present custom educational sessions for Propel Coding Membership clients.Update current coding content (boot camps, eLearning, handbooks) in concert with annual or other coding updatesParticipate in sales calls for new or prospective Propel or onsite boot camp clients.Additional Responsibilities :
Represent company products in tradeshows, seminars, campaigns, and other sales eventsAssist in development of new products and enhancement of existing products to achieve company objectivesRecommend new products or improvements based on customer market and competitor activitiesStay abreast with industry and market trendsResearching and keeping up to date with coding guidelines and best practicesObtain and communicate customer feedback to product teamMaintain a strong market knowledge and cultivate relationships with sources and customersQualifications :
Associate's degree / bachelor's degree in a health information / healthcare related field orat least 10 years inpatient or outpatient coding experience (ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS II, coverage, billing, and reimbursement methodologies).Prior medical coding education experience preferred.Professional credentials (CCS, CPC, CCS-P) requiredAdvanced professional credentials (RHIA, RHIT, RN, CEMC, CRC) desiredMust be a dynamic public speakerDiversity and equal opportunity
