The Director of Product Regulatory Compliance leads the development and execution of comprehensive product compliance programs to ensure alignment with global regulations and industry standards such as CPSIA, REACH, and TSCA. It oversees risk assessments, issue resolution, and recall management across product lines, while embedding compliance into product lifecycles through cross-functional collaboration. The position also represents the organization in regulatory and industry forums, communicates risk insights to senior leadership, and fosters a culture of accountability through team mentorship and training. Strong leadership and strategic foresight are essential to maintain regulatory excellence and support athlete-focused product innovation.
This is a full time hybrid (remote on Monday and Friday, in office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) role located in Coraopolis, PA.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and support comprehensive product compliance programs and policies to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations and industry standards (e.g., CPSIA, FTC, REACH, TSCA, Restricted Substances requirements)
- Monitor and interpret regulatory developments, ensuring prompt updates to policies and procedures.
- Oversee programs that provide regulatory analysis and risk assessments for new and existing products.
- Advise product teams on designing compliant products while balancing athlete-oriented solutions
Compliance Program Management
Oversee assessments to identify and mitigate compliance risk.Ensure complete documentation related to compliance activities, reports, and records.Implement and lead compliance management processes to ensure consistent adherence to standards.Develop and ensure the delivery of training programs to educate teammates on regulatory requirements and obligations including Design, Merchandising, Product Development, Sourcing, Quality Assurance and Legal.Collaboration and Leadership
Collaborate with Design, Merchandising, Product Development, Sourcing, and Quality Assurance teams to integrate compliance into product lifecycles.Represent the organization with regulatory agencies and industry organizations such as The Consumer Product Safety Commission, Footwear Distributors and Retailers of America, and individual state agencies to understand upcoming legislation, provide input to current industry challenges and better understand best practices across the industry.Lead and mentor a team of compliance professionals, fostering a culture of ethics and accountability, and business-first solutions.Collaborate with legal partners to ensure alignment on approach and consistency of policies, procedures and issue management.Risk Management and Issue Resolution
Identify, assess, and mitigate product risk across Vertical Brands product lines through seasonal style review and conducting Design Hazard Analysis for hardlines products, using PDCC internal Product Development system.Lead investigation of compliance issues and implementation of corrective action plans if needed.Lead and direct CPSC product recalls and Vertical Brands stop sales related to safety.Reporting and Communication
Prepare and deliver compliance reports to senior management, Executive Risk and Compliance Committee and Board of Directors Audit Committee to share potential risks and mitigation strategies.Communicate regulatory changes and their implications to relevant stakeholders, ensuring alignment across departments and ensuring changes are reflected in related policies and processes.Function as internal and external spokesperson for compliance matters, supporting open communication with decision-makers.Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Product Development, Design, Business Administration10-15 years experience in a role leading product regulatory compliance or related field within a retail environment with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Experience in Hardlines a plus.
