Job summary
A Shipping and Receiving Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing the efficient and accurate movement of goods in and out of a company's facility. This role involves managing a team of shipping and receiving personnel, ensuring timely deliveries, maintaining precise inventory records, and optimizing the overall logistics process. A key responsibility is ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies, as well as investigating and resolving any issues related to shipments.
Job responsibilities
- Supervise daily shipping and receiving operations : Manage the shipment and receipt of all products, materials, and supplies, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Team Leadership and Development : Supervise, train, and mentor shipping and receiving staff, assign tasks, determine shipping priorities, and foster a positive work environment, according to Mid-West Fastener Association and.
- Inventory Management : Oversee the accurate recording and tracking of inventory levels, conduct regular audits, and resolve discrepancies.
- Shipping and Receiving Coordination : Collaborate with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal teams (like customer service and production) to ensure seamless operations and timely deliveries.
- Documentation and Compliance : Maintain accurate shipping records, verify shipment documents, ensure compliance with regulations, and process necessary invoices.
- Problem Solving and Process Improvement : Identify and address challenges in the logistics process, resolve shipping discrepancies, and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Enforcing safety procedures and ensuring a safe work environment for all shipping and receiving personnel.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Proven experience in shipping and receiving roles, with at least 2-5 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity.
Excellent leadership, communication (both verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
Proficiency in using shipping software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Forklift certification.
