Traffic Control Technician
This is the first of two levels in the Traffic Control series. Incumbents install, and maintain traffic control devices. Responsibilities may include installing, repairing and replacing traffic signs; maintaining and installing pavement markings; programming, and repairing or replacing school zone flasher beacons; installing and monitoring traffic counters; collecting and analyzing traffic data; recommending the installation or modification of traffic control devices; and maintaining records of work activities.
Examples of duties include :
- Installs, maintains, repairs, constructs, tests, programs, and sets a variety of traffic signal and control equipment which may include pavement markings, school zone flashers, traffic counters, and / or related traffic control devices.
- Collects and analyzes traffic data; makes recommendations based on findings.
- Prepares, processes, and maintains various forms, work orders, operational records, traffic data, and / or other related documents and information.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements include :
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), and one year related experience and / or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement.The ability to obtain the following certifications :International Municipal Signal Association Level I Signs and Markings Certification within two years from position hire date.International Municipal Signal Association Level II Signs and Markings Certification within two years after receiving Level I certification and / or being hired into the position.To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.Heavy Work : Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or up to 20 pounds of forces constantly to move objects.Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, environmental hazards, intense noises, and travel.Work environment includes :
Outside weather conditions and moving traffic.Occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.
