Conditions of Employment
Employees must successfully complete a training academy and maintain certification as specified by MPCTC. Pre-employment and random drug testing may be required. A one-year probationary period applies after successful MPCTC training academy completion.
Other : Certification as a sworn Police Officer recognized by MPCTC and a valid Maryland Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license. Clery Act designated campus security authority (CSA) member and compliance with Clery Act requirements.

General Hiring Steps (Not all inclusive) : Physical Ability Test, Polygraph, Conditional Offer, Medical and Psychological Evaluations, Final Offer of Employment.
The written exam process requires scheduling an appointment to participate in the exam. Qualified candidates will receive an email with instructions. The testing window for scheduling is September 16, 2025, to October 24, 2025.
Please note that the hiring process may take approximately 16 to 24 weeks to complete.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
This position may require outdoor / intrusive conditions, exposure to hazards, rotating shifts, holidays and weekends, and high cultural competence in communication.
Physical Demands
Includes varied positions, lifting and transporting, eye-hand coordination, and ability to read printed materials and computer screens. Requires communication through oral, written, electronic and telephonic channels.
Additional Compensation Incentives
CERTIFICATION INCENTIVE : $15,000 increase to base salary for MPCTC certification and related requirements.
CITY RESIDENCY : 20% increase over base salary for Baltimore City residents.
Non-Competitive Career Path for officers from Police Officer I to Police Officer III; annual step increases.
Starting Salary : $70,000. Working Title : JHPD Police Officer. Location : JHU Homewood, Peabody and East Baltimore.
