POSITION :

Reporting to the Senior Vice President Facilities Design, Construction and Planning, the Assistant Vice President of Engineering and Environmental Services directs and oversees enterprise-wide processes and systems necessary to efficiently and effectively manage personnel and other resources to maintain and operate the environment of care, critical infrastructure equipment and grounds. This role is instrumental in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of our hospital's infrastructure, including HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing, and other essential facilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering and facilities management, with a proven track record of leadership and innovation in a healthcare setting.

POSITION DESCRIPTION :

  • Oversee the daily operations of the engineering and environmental services departments, ensuring all systems are maintained appropriately as well as functioning efficiently and safely;
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the maintenance, repair, and improvement of hospital facilities;
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including health and safety standards;
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, environmental services workers and support staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement;
  • Ensure the Environmental Services team maintains the highest standards of cleanliness across the portfolio;
  • Provide oversight and support to regional locations, ensuring consistency in operations and adherence to organizational standards;
  • Manage and prepare regular reports on : Asset Conditions, Preventive Maintenance Systems and processes, Reactive Maintenance performance and causes, Consumable Inventory, Client Satisfaction and Service Delivery Performance;
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Facilities Design and Construction to open new facilities with all the requisite PM programs and engineering staffing in place to ensure a smooth transition to operations;
  • Develop and maintain communication channels for the facilities team to regularly inform administrative and clinical leadership / staff regarding preventive maintenance schedules, repairs, shutdowns, and other engineering activities that affect Hospital operations;
  • Collaborate with other hospital departments to support patient care and operational goals;
  • Develop and manage the department's budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources;
  • Ensure the hospital's systems are maintained and operated in compliance with industry standards;
  • Lead projects related to facility upgrades, expansions, and minor renovations;
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and identify areas for improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field. A Master's degree in a related field or MBA is preferred;
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in engineering and facilities management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role;
  • CHFM certification preferred;
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare facility regulations and standards are required;
  • Superior leadership, communication, analytical and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment;
  • Proven track record developing innovative solutions to complex problems;
  • Proven ability to develop and manage budgets effectively;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
