Residential Life Administrator
Under administrative direction from the Vice President for Student Affairs, this educator and administrator provides visionary leadership and direction for the department and administers and manages the Residential Life Program. This position directs departmental operations, oversees the department budgets, sets department goals, coordinates assessment efforts, and establishes learning outcomes and implementation strategies for the department. Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities)
Leadership & Administration
- Manages the University's housing operations in the Division of Student Affairs, provides fiscal management for the department budget, and supervises professional and support staff, ensuring efficient operations and programming, and ensures compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, standards, and laws.
- Evaluates and assesses University housing occupancy, retention, and projection trends; oversees the residential facilities to maintain a safe, secure, and healthy living environment; confirms that all room assignments and billings are completed and communicated to students.
- Researches and analyzes issues, finds options, and recommends courses of action. Provides performance metrics, efficiency studies, progress reports, and analytics as needed. Oversees the collection and synthesis of data, as well as the development and compilation of plans and reports for the division.
- Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement. Determines space needs, staffing solutions, etc.
- Is responsible for hiring, supervising, and ensuring employees are adequately trained with proper oversight to ensure that University policies, procedures, laws, and regulations are followed, and that duties are properly segregated for all financial and personnel processes.

- Recommends and participates in the development of college policies and procedures as they relate to housing. Focuses on achieving consistency in standards and maximizing limited resources.
- Additional duties to ensure department operational effectiveness
Housing Operations & Facilities
Work closely with the Director of Facilities Services, and the Facilities Services Supervisory Team, on custodial, grounds, structural, life-safety, and technical issues and projects in support of the auxiliary infrastructure at ASU.Oversee the work crew staff (painting, furniture moving, cleaning, etc.).Coordinate and manage room assignments.Responsible for all information through input to the Workday, eResLife and One Card systems as it pertains to housing and meal plans.Student Engagement & Community Development
Through direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Housing, administers a student-focused residential life experience for ASU students including supporting residential learning communities, relevant and engaging student programming and close coordination with the office of Co-Curricular Recreation and Engagement, First Year Experience, and other Student Affairs Unit departments.Develops and oversees residential communities that utilize best practices in student development and research to create engaging, learning environments (including implementation of a residential curriculum that effectively considers all specialty housing).Initiate and implement an awareness of multicultural issues and support the creation of a diverse environment.Fiscal and Strategic Management
Negotiates financial agreements with outside vendors and related commercial enterprises.Reviews occupancy status to maintain budget / performance expectations and recommends rent schedules. Monitors, assists, and makes recommendations to improve marketing strategies.Responsible for annual operating budgets for all housing units, and management of multi-year budgetary strategies, to include major capital improvements and investments.Compliance & Risk Management
Ensures the security and safety of students; responsible for crisis and risk management.Serve as a Campus Security Authority as federally mandated under the Clery Act.Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Earned Bachelor's Degree in higher education administration, business, counseling, or a related field.Six (6) years of related experience in increasingly advanced roles in higher education housing / residence life.Experience supervising professional staff or student employees.Ability to treat others with respect, civility, and courtesy and to work honestly, effectively, and collegially with employees, students, and the community. This includes the ability to use appropriate conflict management skills to effectively manage any disagreement that might arise or to bring the disagreement to management for assistance in productive resolution when the situation requires.Knowledge of residence life operations.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Organizational / Strategic Planning / Budget Management skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Ability to handle multiple complicated tasks simultaneously.Ability to work a flexible schedule.Resiliency under pressure, de-escalation intervention skills.Must have the ability to work independently and to implement solutions effectively without direct supervision.Preferred Qualifications
An earned Master's Degree in higher education administration, educational leadership, counseling, or a related field.Eight (8) years of related experience in increasingly advanced supervisor roles in higher education housing / residence life.Knowledge of college student development (theory and practice).Three years experience in supervising professional and student staff.Demonstrated commitment to supporting the needs of students from underrepresented populations.Experience implementing programs and services geared toward meeting the needs of students from underrepresented backgrounds.Proven commitment to providing leadership in enhancing an atmosphere of equity, diversity, and inclusion.Salary and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $68,052-$77,412.
