Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical night shift position, requiring a NC or Compact license and strong neuro patient care skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital medical surgical unit with a neuro patient population
  • Common diagnoses include neuro surgical procedures and neurological conditions
  • Patient ratios are typically 1 : 6-7
  • Night shift position (4x12 hour shifts, 18 : 45-07 : 15)
  • Contract length options are 13 to 26 weeks
  • Floating within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals is required
  • EMR system used is Epic
  • Medication and documentation systems include Pyxis and SBAR
  • Weekend coverage of 12-16 shifts per contract is required, with some flexibility
  • Block scheduling may be available upon request
  • Managers are responsible for scheduling
  • Unit orientation includes 2 shifts following hospital orientation
  • May be assigned to Storm Team or Hurricane Team and be required to work during disasters or catastrophic events
  • Potential to be consolidated or preassigned to different units mid-contract
  • Must complete required modules prior to start; module hours vary by specialty
  • Required to wear navy scrubs
  • Work with a flexible, supportive team
  • Auto-approved RTO up to 7 days unless it falls on a holiday; no RTO during first week of assignment
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are offered a different rate
  • Travel pairs accepted only if assigned to different units
  • Former employees must have a 12-month break in employment before consideration as a traveler

    • Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required at start
  • Minimum 2 years of recent medical surgical nursing experience
  • Certifications required : BCLS and NIHSS
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Ability and willingness to float without restrictions
  • References from at least two managers or supervisors from the past 12 months preferred
  • Neuro experience is preferred but not required
