SUMMARY
The Cook prepares and cooks meals for the patients and employees of Webster County Community Hospital. This position performs all cleaning and sanitation as required to meet corporate standards and guidelines that ensure quality food service is provided at all times.
This position complies with department and organization-wide policies, critical access hospital (CAH) requirements, safety and infection control, and all federal and state of Nebraska regulations related to the performance of Webster County Community Hospital (WCCH) operations and requirements of the compliance program.
Requirements :
- Assures proper techniques are utilized in the dish room and that established procedures and standards are maintained.
- Maintains quality control measures to ensure temperature, attractiveness and palatability of food.
- Ensures food is prepared, cooked and portion size is per established policies and procedures.
- Ensures cleaning and sanitation requirements are maintained; Assists with scheduled cleaning duties in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Performs any and all duties in the kitchen, patient tray service, cafeteria and dish room as required.
- Inspects all work areas to ensure cleanliness and condition.
- Follows established infection control policies and procedures.
- Disposes of food and waste in accordance with established policies.
- Maintains temperature logs for food, refrigerators and freezers and all other regulatory requirements.
- Maintains necessary equipment and supplies and reports needed repairs and maintenance to hospital maintenance department.
- Reports immediately all hazardous conditions / equipment to Dietary Supervisor.
- Reports all accidents / incidents as established by department policies.
- Wears protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and / or blood / bodily fluids.
- Advises the Director of Nursing or other appropriate medical staff of any resident safety concerns (i.e. swallowing difficulties).
- Reports any and all messages and patient changes to manager at change of shift.
- Attends monthly dietary meeting, and reviews manager meeting minutes.
- Performs duties of Dietary Manager in absence.
- Meets monthly with the dietician for in-service report.
- Meets with patients to fill out patient dietary sheet and discuss patient preferences and satisfaction.
- Collaborates with manager to fill out food and product orders and to ensure proper workflow within the department.
- Purchases additional food according to budget and need.
- Coordinates schedule with manager to ensure appropriate kitchen coverage.
- Maintains availability for special events to help in kitchen as needed.
- Assists with HACCP programs and develops new aspects as needed.
- Assists with and attends QA meetings as necessary.
- Charts meals logs and maintains employee meal records for audit reports and payroll deductions.
- Communicates professionally with patients and their families, and other visitors to the facility.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager or Administrator.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent required.One (1) year dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical facility preferred.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION
Valid Nebraska driver’s license required (may be necessary to pick up supplies / food from local grocery store).BENEFITS
