TARC will be launching the New TARC Network next summer and we want you to be a part of it!
The New TARC Network will mark a new chapter in TARC history and will allow the agency to provide better, more reliable service on major corridors across the city. TARC is looking for transit professionals who want to help us deliver high-quality bus service to the Louisville community.
GENERAL SUMMARY :
Performs maintenance, repair and fabrication work requiring the skillful use of a variety of metal machining tools and precision measuring devises to shape parts into conformance with specified dimensions for facility, including coach engines, auxiliary units, and other parts as required. This position will support a safety and customer service culture through programs, procedures, and other related work to achieve TARC’s mission and strategic outcomes. The position is responsible for meeting or exceeding all TARC policies and procedures with strict adherence to all local, state, and federal regulations; and performing related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Fabricate, repair and / or modify parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathe, milling machine, shaper, grinder, drill press, reamer, boring bar or bandsaw, as well as welding.
- Design, modify and fabricate items not available from a factory such as coach transmission cases, shop tools, parts for building maintenance such as brackets and shafts.
- Use precision measuring devices such as height gauges, micrometers, calipers and dial indicators to insure adherence to tolerance specifications.
- Perform routine or preventive maintenance and repair, lubrication and cleaning of equipment.
- Provide instruction and training to employees as requested.
- Maintain order of work area.
- Performs other job-related duties as requested.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or GED;Possess a journeyman machinist card.Three (3) years of related experience performing machinist work and thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment of the machinist trade.Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Kentucky or Indiana Commercial Class B Driver's License with a passenger and air brakes endorsements within 60 days of hire.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment and safety procedures utilized in the installation and maintenance of electronic equipment and electrical systems found in coaches and other vehicles.Ability to safely and properly operate a variety of machines, tools and equipment.Ability to use hand tools and other equipment needed to make repairs.Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills for completing repairs.Various federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations relevant to the work performed.Principles and techniques for working with groups and fostering effective team interaction to ensure teamwork is conducted smoothly.The structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.Research, analyze, and evaluate service delivery methods, procedures, and techniques.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, using appropriate English grammar and syntax.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of business, including employees, contractors, the community, and the general public.Effectively use computer systems, applications, and modern business equipment to perform a variety of work tasks.WORKING CONDITIONS :
Incumbents generally work in a noisy environment with adequate light and temperature and exposure to moving mechanical parts, metal shavings, vibrations, dirt, dust, chemicals, odors, oil, and fuels including diesel and gas. There may be occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, loud noise and fumes; must be able to see, hear and speak; and be able to lift up to 75 lbs. Work will require mobility including lifting or moving materials.

Starting rate : $31.46 / hrScheduled raise to $32.37 / hr on 8 / 31 / 2025Earn up to $8 / hr more : $1 / hr for each ASE certification (up to 8 total)
