Overview
The Department of English at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge invites applications for a tenure-track position in Rhetoric and Writing at the level of assistant professor to begin August 2026. This is a full-time, nine-month position in the Department of English. The position requires commitments to research, teaching, and service.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses in rhetoric and writing at undergraduate and graduate levels, including courses such as ENGL 2300 - Interpreting Discourse, ENGL 3002 - Technical Writing, ENGL 3300 - Rhetoric : Texts and Historical Texts, ENGL 3301 - Writing : Practice, Pedagogy and History, ENGL 4300 - Studies in Rhetorical Theory, ENGL 4301 - Studies in Composition Theory.
- Contribute to related areas of expertise as appropriate, such as technical and professional writing, digital media, writing and technology, or women’s and gender studies, among other sub-fields of interest.
- Engage in scholarly research and publish actively to maintain an active profile appropriate for a Research 1 institution; develop and implement a research agenda with support from the College for faculty development.
- Engage in service responsibilities and participate on graduate student committees as applicable.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in English or related fields with an emphasis in rhetoric and composition. Applicants who are ABD and will complete the Ph.D. by the time of appointment will be considered.Application Timeline and Process
