Job Summary :
The Inpatient Registered Nurse directs and provides professional nursing care for an assigned group of patients across the age continuum. The Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to direct or provide nursing care. The Registered Nurse provides guidance to other members of the surgical nursing unit; and may be authorized, in the absence of the Charge Nurse, to make decisions affecting the nursing unit. In addition, the Registered Nurse will perform other duties as assigned.

- Every 3rd weekend night shift rotation & Holiday rotation
Essential Functions :
Assessment :
Completes a thorough assessment of patients as well as surgical specific assessment based on need and utilizes critical thinking skills to direct appropriate care and treatments. Reassesses patients at appropriate intervals to ensure desired outcome is achievedCompletes and documents assessments in a thorough and accurate manner as defined by unit policyAssesses the need for patient and family instruction and provides necessary educationPlanning :
Initiates, develops, and documents the patient plan of care based on patient assessment and surgical diagnosis / procedure. Individualizes the patient plan of care as necessary and evaluates and adjusts for realistic outcome datesInteracts with other disciplines as needed to determine plan of care and to create a discharge planReviews and updates plan of care minimally every 24 hoursImplementation :
Provides safe and comprehensive nursing care according to state regulations, hospital policy and procedure and Joint Commission standardsEstablish care priorities based on patient problems; communicate with staff and new employees of patient problems / concerns / changes in condition. Notify physician promptly regarding concernsMust be proficient in medication administration, including IV therapy, as evidenced by lack of medication errors as well as reports medication errorsPerforms procedures accurately, completely and safely according to established policy and procedure and physician ordersProvide care with minimal supervision in a timely mannerMaintains a safe environment for patients, uses safety precautions appropriatelyFollows Universal Precautions, asepsis, and infection control proceduresComplies with HIPPA Privacy lawsProfessional Requirements

Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.Graduate of a school of professional nursingCurrent licensure in the State of WisconsinBLS certification is required upon hireMust be able to achieve, ACLS and PALS certification within six months of hireAbility to relate and work effectively with othersDemonstrated skills in verbal and written English communications for safe and effective patient care as well as basic computer skills to meet documentation standardsWillingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own professional advancementPrefer 2 year minimum experience in a hospital medical / surgical settingPrevious recovery room, ambulatory care, critical care or general nursing experience is preferredIs aware of professional nursing standards and performs in accordance with themBenefits :
