Job Title : EHS & Safety Coordinator
Location : Avon Lake, OH
Shift : 1st shift (Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm)
Salary : $65K-$90K
The EHS & Safety Coordinator plays a key role in fostering a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs that align with federal, state, and local regulations. Working closely with leadership, supervisors, and employees, the coordinator helps build a strong safety culture through hands-on training, regular audits, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about employee well-being, proactive risk reduction, and driving sustainable safety practices across all levels of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments in all areas of the facility.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Lead safety committees and coordinate monthly meetings with employee representatives.
- Maintain OSHA-required safety records, logs, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with EPA, state, and local environmental regulations, including hazardous waste management, air emissions, and stormwater programs.
- Oversee waste disposal processes, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and transport.
- Maintain environmental permits and ensure reporting deadlines are met.
- Support industrial hygiene initiatives such as noise monitoring, air quality assessments, and ergonomics evaluations.
- Manage hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and other PPE programs.
- Oversee medical surveillance programs as required by regulatory standards.
- Conduct EHS training for new hires and ongoing employee refresher sessions.
- Deliver toolbox talks, safety drills, and emergency preparedness exercises.
- Promote employee engagement in safety improvement programs and hazard reporting.
- Partner with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to reduce workplace risks.
- Track and analyze safety metrics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Implement lean and 5S principles to improve safety and environmental performance.
Qualifications
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or related field; or equivalent experience.3+ years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and relevant state regulations.Strong communication and training skills.Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing.Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP).Hazwoper 40-hour certification.Attention to Detail : Ensures compliance and accuracy in reporting.Collaboration : Works effectively with employees at all levels to improve safety culture.Problem-Solving : Identifies root causes and implements effective solutions.Proactivity : Anticipates and mitigates risks before they impact operations.Company Benefits
