The position is based in Dallas and may offer a hybrid schedule consistent with the broader Specialty Pharmacy teams operating model.

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Specialty Pharmacist to join our growing Specialty Pharmacy team. As a key member of our pharmacy operations, you will support patients with complex, chronic, and rare conditions. You will be responsible for ensuring optimal therapeutic outcomes through clinical expertise, medication therapy management, and patient education. You will also collaborate closely with healthcare providers, care coordinators, and patients to optimize and streamline care delivery, facilitate prior authorizations, and ensure timely access to specialty medications.

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other pharmacy staff and care coordinators to provide support for prior authorizations, financial assistance programs and strategies for cost-effective medication use.
  • Assist in clinical program development, quality improvement, and Specialty Pharmacy initiatives.
  • Mentor, support, and provide oversight to care coordinators and other pharmacy team members.
  • Support provider engagement efforts and contribute to the development of strategies for effective collaboration with providers at Health Systems.
  • Assist in creating and refining standards of practice for specialty medications, including protocols aligned with specific disease states.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement best practices that improve clinical outcomes and provider alignment
  • Educate patients on medication use, proper dosing, potential side effects, and drug interactions, with a focus on specialty medications and complex therapies.
  • Continuously assess and document clinical interventions including adverse drug events, barriers to adherence, therapeutic efficacy, and other medication-related issues.
  • Utilize laboratory and diagnostic data to guide clinical decisions, optimize medication therapy, and ensure safe and effective medication use.
  • Stay current on new medications, treatment guidelines, and regulatory changes; advise clinical leadership on appropriate actions or implementation strategies.
  • Ensure strict adherence to patient confidentiality policies and HIPAA compliance across pharmacy operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education : Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited School of Pharmacy required.

Licenses and Certifications : Must hold an active pharmacist license in the state of residence and be eligible and willing to obtain additional licensure as needed to carry out patient care services within a specified time frame.

Experience :

  • Completion of a PGY1 residency or at least 2 years of outpatient / ambulatory care clinical practice required.
  • Completion of a PGY1 or PGY2 residency with a focus in specialty pharmacy strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with health system specialty pharmacy operations, is strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with EPIC EMR, including MSOT workflow is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of URAC and ACHC patient management standards is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent clinical judgment, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to mentor team members.
