National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we'll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one - putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you'll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

Group Function Rotations

Graduates in our Finance teams will take part in a 12-month exploration. Your first 6 months will be in the role outlined below and you will return to this role following a broadening 6-month placement designed to provide you with a breadth of experience within your functional area and accelerate your progression at National Grid. This placement will provide you with the opportunity to solve complex problems and focus on growth that will transform the energy sector as we know it.

About the Position

Are you ready to make an impact? As an Associate Analyst, you'll join a global team tackling transformational topics that span all service lines in Enterprise Business Services (EBS). This is a growing team where you'll focus on Strategy, Service Excellence, and Process Improvement, ensuring our core processes are documented according to EBS global standards. Your role will involve identifying, analyzing, and enhancing business processes to optimize efficiency and effectiveness using proven methodologies like ESOAR, Six Sigma, and Lean Thinking. This role is a fantastic way to learn about National Grid as a business and play an important part in delivering our ambitious strategy and vision for a clean, fair, and affordable energy future!

This is a hybrid role, with two days a week in the Syracuse, New York office for team collaboration.

What You'll Do

As an Associate Analyst with Process & Performance Improvement, you'll engage in dynamic strategic work that helps our employees, customers, and stakeholders. Here's what you'll be up to :

  • Identify Opportunities : Spot process inefficiencies and failures, working closely with functional teams to develop solutions that drive efficiency and maximize value through projects and ongoing change management.
  • Documentation : Ensure all documentation aligns with EBS standards.
  • Data Analysis : Conduct data collection and analysis to identify specific process improvement opportunities, develop scoping documents, and determine project deliverables.
  • Build Relationships : Develop and maintain business relationships within end-to-end processes, project leadership, and project teams to facilitate proper information flow.
  • Facilitate Improvement : Lead and deliver process improvement diagnostic and initiative events using proven methodologies (e.g., ESOAR, Lean Six Sigma, Lean Thinking).
  • Problem Solving : Be a key player in fixing issues and solving problems, contributing to the overall success of the team.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor or Master's degree from an accredited institution preferably in data analytics, data science, business administration, engineering, operations management, or a related field.
  • A curious mindset with a desire to understand how things work.
  • Strong facilitation skills to lead discussion and workshops effectively.
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills to thrive in this role.
  • Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 8, 2026, or July 13, 2026
  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)

    Salary Range

    Syracuse, NY $61,000 - $72,000 a year

    You must reside within our existing footprint, which includes contiguous states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont). Our hybrid working approach applies to all colleagues who have a role which has the flexibility to be done hybrid across the National Grid group. Operational requirements mean that not all roles are suitable for hybrid working. Managers are responsible for determining whether a role is conducive to hybrid working. A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.
