Liquor Retail Operations Manager

Overview

The Retail Operations Manager at the Department of Liquor and Lottery Division of Liquor is a key position responsible for leading and optimizing the operations of our 86 retail stores. This role requires a proactive and adaptable leader who can balance operational efficiency with employee development and customer service.

The manager will oversee 4 Liquor Store Coordinators, providing guidance, performance management, and professional growth opportunities.

Store Operations : Oversee the daily operations of liquor stores, ensuring compliance with policies and legal regulations. Manage inventory levels in stores. Ensure that the store layout and displays are attractive and optimized for sales.

Sales and Profitability : Develop and implement sales strategies to meet or exceed sales targets. Analyze sales data to identify trends and opportunities for growth.

Staff Management : Recruit, train, and supervise staff, ensuring high levels of customer service. Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback and coaching to employees.

Customer Service : Ensure that customers both internal and external receive excellent service and have a positive experience with DLL. Handle complaints and resolve issues promptly and effectively.

Compliance and Safety : Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Financial Management : Manage budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure financial targets are met.

Collaboration : Collaboration is central to this position. The Manager works daily with other DLL stakeholders, state agencies, vendors, and government officials, requiring strong interpersonal skills and clear communication across all levels of the organization.

Regular statewide travel is necessary to support store operations, troubleshoot issues, and maintain relationships with Agency owners and staff. The role also requires flexibility, with occasional communication outside normal hours to resolve urgent matters.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in both standard office and field settings. Frequent visits to retail sales locations through the State will be required, for which private means of transportation must be available. Some work may be required outside of normal office hours. Remote / hybrid work available.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) or more years of retail management, operations or merchandising experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or a related field preferred.
