Machine Operator - Paint & Blast (2nd shift, 4x10 Schedule)

Mueller Water Products is the nation's leading manufacturer of flow control devices for the water and gas distribution industries and has an immediate opening for a Machine Operator for our Paint and Blast department in our newest Kimball, TN facility. Job Description :

As a Machine Operator - Paint and Blast , you will play an integral role in one of the final stages of our production process. Proper blasting and painting ensures that our product not only looks visually appealing to our customers but also ensures that it is well protected to serve our customers for years to come.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Spray prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers or finish coatings.
  • Monitor painting operations to identify flaws and correct their causes.
  • Read job orders and inspect workpieces to determine work procedures and materials required.
  • Apply masking material prior to painting to ensure appropriate painting of parts.
  • Operate blast booth equipment to remove rust, paint, and other built-up materials from product surface to prepare parts for painting.
  • Observe machine gauges and equipment operation to detect defects or deviations from standards and adjust as necessary.
  • Safely operate lifting or moving devices to move materials to and from booths for painting and blasting.
  • Mix paints to match color specifications or original colors, stirring or thinning paints, using mixing equipment.
  • Place coated workpieces in ovens or dryers for specified times to dry or harden finishes.
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers or power equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths as part of regular / daily maintenance.
  • Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate and safe manner.
  • Maintain appropriate operational documentation, including production and quality logs.
  • Ensures work areas and department are clean and organized.
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to all relevant safety guidelines, procedures, and regulations and flagging any equipment or safety issues to the appropriate team lead, supervisor, maintenance, or EHS personnel utilizing "Stop, Call, Wait" procedure.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills :

  • Strong personal commitment to safety standards in industrial and / or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work orders.
  • Familiarity with basic tools of measuring and when to use for inspection of part.
  • Must be organized and detail oriented.
  • Required Education / Experience :

  • Must have high school diploma / GED or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
  • Holds a valid driver's license.
  • Preferred :

  • 3+ years' experience operating paint / blast equipment in a manufacturing setting
  • Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and / or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and / or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to correctly wear a PAPR / respirator when working in paint area.
  • Ability to use hands to handle, feel, or manipulate objects with fingers.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, and reach within hands and / or arm's length.
  • Ability to frequently stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ability to occasionally reach overhead or at or below shoulder level.
  • Ability to ascend or descend ladders or steps in confined spaces, as required by work area.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects between 25 and 50 pounds in weight in all directions.
  • Ability to remain in stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and to alternate between positions as necessary.
  • Ability to repeat gross or fine manipulation that may include the use of wrists, hands, and / or fingers.
  • Ability to perform close visual inspections of products, which may include specific vision requirements.
  • Ability to clearly see pedestrians and objects, which may include specific vision requirements.
  • Ability to work in an open warehouse environment, subject to seasonal weather (hot / cold).
  • Ability to safely operate standing and sit-down power industrial trucks (PIT), and other similar and advanced industrial equipment.
