CAD Designer (with Electrical background)
POSITION SUMMARY
The CAD Designer supports engineers by creating detailed layouts, drawings, sketches, and diagrams using CAD software. This role focuses on producing accurate electrical system designs, including all necessary views and dimensions for manufacturing. The designer maintains an organized database of drawings, tracks revisions, and makes routine decisions while escalating complex issues to engineers or supervisors. A strong grasp of drafting techniques and engineering terminology, particularly in electrical systems, is essential.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
- Utilize Autodesk AutoCAD to develop and revise electrical system designs, including detailed and assembly drawings.
- Create final sketches of proposed designs, ensuring accuracy in part dimensions, materials, and relationships between components.
- Draft rough system layouts, calculating angles, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, and hole locations.
- Apply knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and physical sciences to produce precise electrical drawings.
- Generate detailed multiview drawings of machines, systems, or products.
- Convert conceptual sketches into finished designs.
- Update drafting and engineering standards to maintain consistency.
- Organize and maintain a file system for production drawings.
- Collaborate with project managers and sales teams to communicate updates on new or revised drawings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
Associate's degree from a two-year college or technical school; or 6–12 months of related experience and / or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Ability to read, interpret, and create documents such as safety guidelines, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.Effective communication skills for presenting information to customers or internal teams.Proficiency in mathematical concepts, including probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.Competence in applying fractions, percentages, ratios, and other mathematical concepts to practical scenarios.Strong problem-solving skills to address practical challenges with limited standardization.Ability to interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.Advanced proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD; strong skills in PC usage and Microsoft Office suite.Familiarity with CAD / CAM systems and their integration with computer-aided manufacturing processes.
