Overview The Lead User Experience Designer role involves hands-on design, research, and iteration. The Lead UX Designer builds intuitive, essential, and delightful experiences for our Consumer, B2B, and B2B2C products in collaboration with cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Product, Analytics, Senior Management). The incumbent develops, presents, and communicates design ideas in a large team environment, and should possess strong visual and user‑centered design skills, a keen eye for consistency, color, typography, and subtle details. The role requires translating complex issues into clean, focused design solutions and a strong emphasis on usability and aesthetics. Our UX teams include designers, researchers, and content strategists who are passionate about quality, usability, and simplicity.
Essential Functions
- As part of the UX Design and Research team, partner with Product teams to identify opportunities, help define product roadmaps, vision, and strategy. Synthesize customer needs to translate into new products and services. Define and communicate best-in-class digital payments and identity design.
- Experiment with new capabilities to expand the design offering across the company.
- Own the relationship with partner banks in designing new products and services.
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of our products, customer needs, and competitive landscape.
- Prioritize customer-first outcomes in decision-making conversations.
- Create and present compelling deliverables to a range of audiences and forums.
- Shape methodology and culture within cross-functional teams; promote design culture and guide teams in design planning, activities, and reporting.
- Share work with leaders to advance the role of design across the organization and partner banks.
- Address ambiguity proactively to keep teammates inspired and productive.
- Apply strategic design lenses (customer, business, competitive, social) to solving problems.
- Lead workshops that advance the application of design across the organization and partner banks.
- Experiment with, design, and implement systems to improve planning and outcomes.
- Develop a unique voice and presence in promoting the role of design across the company.
- Support the company’s commitment to risk management and protecting the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.
- Lead with customer obsession, deliver high-craft user experiences, and leverage user research.
- Be a key member of the Product team and contribute to operating structure and team culture.
- Work with design, technology, and product teams to establish an experience framework for our products and services.
- Frame problems strategically to inform solutions; explore divergent perspectives to inform design decisions.
- Create mockups and prototypes from discovery through execution.
- Participate in and occasionally lead user research sessions.
- Distill customer feedback into product ideas and refinements.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in UX / UI Design, Research, or related fields, or equivalent experience.8+ years of work experience focused on product design and UI across web and mobile platforms.Strong online design portfolio demonstrating success with complex, data-intensive products.Strong command of visual and communication design principles.Experience designing mobile app experiences end-to-end with familiarity of mobile development.Enthusiasm for iterative design processes and group critique.Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Ability to contribute to detailed product requirements.Proficiency in design tools (Figma, Sketch, Photoshop).Ability to communicate concepts and designs through sketches, wireframes, high-fidelity comps, and prototypes.Ability to work independently and in a team; strong collaboration skills.Strong written, verbal, and presentation communications; ability to interact with senior stakeholders.Interest in Payments and Commerce.Fosters a culture of belonging, wellness, diversity, inclusion, and career growth.Ability to balance hands-on design with guiding the quality of work from others.Self-starter, motivated, able to work independently and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision.Experience presenting to and collaborating with senior-level stakeholders.Experience leading design critiques with remote team members.Background check and drug screen may be required.Preferred Qualifications
Experience in e-commerce and financial tech environments is a plus but not required.Experience participating in generative and evaluative research activities.Physical Requirements
Working conditions are a normal office environment. The role is primarily sedentary and requires extensive computer use; may involve standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally. Requires visual acuity and dexterity to work with documents and computers. Ability to communicate with internal and external customers. Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
The base pay scale for this position in Phoenix, AZ / Chicago, IL is USD 116,000 – 145,000 per year. In New York, NY / San Francisco, CA, the range is USD 139,000 – 174,000 per year. This may be complemented by a discretionary incentive plan and benefits. The pay scale is subject to change and not a guarantee of compensation. Salary decisions consider factors such as job scope, market rates, location, education, experience, and skills. The company supports wage equity in accordance with applicable laws.
