Director, Medical Laboratories

UVA Health University Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Medical Laboratories to lead the day-to-day operations of the Core Lab, Microbiology, Blood Bank & Transfusion Services and Cellular Therapies. This critical leadership role is responsible for ensuring excellence in laboratory services through effective resource utilization, policy development, and continuous quality improvement. As a key member of the Medical Laboratories leadership team, the Director will partner closely with faculty and health system leadership to drive operational efficiency, uphold regulatory and quality standards, and foster professional growth across the team. The Director of Medical Laboratories directs the day-to-day operations of Laboratory Departments within the Medical Center Medical Laboratories. Responsibilities include effective resource utilization, program and policy development, implementation and evaluation. As a member of the Medical Laboratories leadership team, the individual demonstrates clinical expertise and will be involved in continuous quality improvement, customer service, resource and financial management, efficient and effective system processes and professional development. Will partner with Faculty and Medical Center Management efficiently and effectively.

Knowledge of financial and information systems affecting laboratory services

Able to think globally and act strategically on behalf of the laboratory operation and meet hospital expectations of excellent customer service

Able to recruit and retain employees and develop others as part of succession planning

Work with LIS to ensure CP system supports and enhances department operations

Oversee appropriateness and implementation plans for new capital and operating budget requests

Partner with Faculty and Medical Center Management efficiently and effectively

Knowledge of regulatory and quality improvement requirements related to Clinical Pathology and other Lab Services

Ensure efficient provision of services and implement quality and operational initiative

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education : Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field; Master's Degree in Business or Related Field preferred

Experience : Minimum of 5 years of increasing managerial experience in a complex health care environment

Licensure : Medical Technologist or categorical CT HTL ASCP or equivalent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Position Compensation Range : $102,851.00 - $205,703.00 Annual
