Overview

The Visalia Times-Delta, in Visalia, California, part of the USA TODAY NETWORK, is seeking a general assignment reporter who will focus on producing quick-turn hyper-local stories. The ideal candidate will be a strong reporter and writer who will build audience through probing reporting and compelling storytelling. The bulk of assignments will be quick-hit stories bouncing off the news and developed in a few hours up to a few days. Stories will come from a mix of ideas generated by the reporter, network or general assignments.

Responsibilities

• Research, report and produce compelling content that continuously grows audience by informing and engaging readers.
• Act as a public ambassador through community outreach and connect with readers through email, social media.
• Provide thoughtful analysis of complex issues.
• Produce watchdog journalism that leads to change.
• Use real-time metrics to respond to user demand and reader interest.
• Contribute to the community’s greater good through impactful journalism.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this role will range between $20.67 and $32.30. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives / works, individual education level, skills, certifications and experience. Note : variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable.
