Overview
This position is for a Research Assistant in Dr. Gaggar's Lab within the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Working under minimal supervision, the Researcher Assistant will perform established laboratory procedures to advance the lab's research objectives. The primary responsibility is mouse colony management, including ear punching, breeding, and weaning, as well as genotyping. This role involves daily handling of mice. Additional duties include maintaining live animal inventory and managing spreadsheets for genotyping, harvested tissue inventories, and laboratory supply inventory. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the Principal Investigator and laboratory staff are essential.
General Responsibilities
As a Researcher Assistant, you will contribute to the daily operations of research projects under the close supervision of experienced researchers. This role involves performing standard research tasks, including sample processing, basic data analysis, and maintaining accurate records. Your support will be crucial in helping senior team members execute complex protocols and ensuring the smooth functioning of the lab. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and / or specimens.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with mouse colony maintenance, including breeding, weaning, and genotyping.
Maintain accurate spreadsheets for mouse colony records and managing spreadsheets for genotyping, harvested tissue inventories, and laboratory supply inventory.
Harvest and process mouse tissues.
Assist with other routine, established laboratory procedures in support of the lab's research goals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Hourly Range
$16.83- $19.23
Qualifications
Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related field OR High School diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
