Description :

Unit has 33 beds with all private rooms.

Patient-to-nurse ratio is 1 to 6.

EPIC experience is required.

Common diagnoses include elective surgeries for hips, knees, shoulders, fractures from falls, and neuro-surgeries for back and neck.

RNs are not required to titrate drips.

Common infusions include IV fluids and PCA pumps; no heparin or other drips.

A Charge Nurse is available 24 / 7.

Day charge may take patients if necessary; night charge will always take a full patient assignment.

Patient Care Techs (PCTs) assist with vital signs, FSBS, and activities of daily living.

Goals include having a maximum of 4 PCTs when the unit is full, but staffing may vary.

Respiratory therapy equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow is available and managed by the respiratory team.

Remote telemetry is available, monitored by another unit.

RNs do not have to read telemetry strips.

Shifts are from 0700-1930 and 1900-0730 with a half-hour lunch break.

Permanent staff self-schedules; travelers will be scheduled as needed.

Block scheduling is allowed as long as unit needs are met.

Every other weekend is required for work.

Weekend shifts for day staff are Saturday and Sunday; night shifts are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Holiday requirements depend on unit needs; travelers may be expected to work holidays if permanent staff coverage is insufficient.

Travelers are the first to float to other MedSurg units, and floating is a requirement.

Scrub color is royal blue, and scrub jackets, if worn, must also be royal blue.

Hoodies or sweat-jackets are not allowed.
