Under the direction of the Superintendent or Foreman, a Special Mechanic - Welder is responsible for repairing NJ TRANSIT buses for maintenance work and handling welding tasks.
Main Functions :
Conducts a variety of testing, repair, installation, and maintenance tasks on equipment including engines, brake systems, suspension, steering, electronics, electrical systems, HVAC, transmission, and painting equipment, as well as :
- Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions and follow established policies and procedures.
- Able to diagnose and repair all electric I / O Controls and Multiplex Wiring Systems.
- The ability to complete wiring conversion for buses with 12v, 24v, 110v, and High voltage (EV buses).
- Have the mechanical ability to disassemble and reassemble complete electrical components.
- Have a working knowledge of reading electrical schematics. Be able to diagnose and repair electrical faults including wiring repair.
- Able to diagnose and repair electrical components on all computer-controlled engines and transmissions.
- Have the ability to troubleshoot, analyze, and implement effective solutions for operational faults on hybrid vehicle systems and components.
- Able to troubleshoot and repair all electrical components.
- Working knowledge of air conditioning and electrical systems.
- Be able to diagnose and program with a computer all engines, transmissions, and various other systems (HVAC, etc.).
- Demonstrate ability in the proper use of tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Be able to use and read parts manuals and be able to fill out required forms.
Willingness to work overtime when required.
Maintain a clean, uncluttered, and safe work area. Must follow established shop safety policies and procedures.
