Plumbing Master
This is a fast paced highly visible advanced Journeyman position which requires superior technical knowledge of all facets of plumbing systems and related fixtures and components. The area of responsibility assigned to this position includes more than 150 major buildings, including multi-story critical research facilities, spread over several hundred acres and encompassing more than 8,500,000 square feet of floor space.
Minimum Qualifications : One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience : Three years of experience or training in pipefitting, steam fitting, or plumbing.
Job Specification : Due to the nature of this position and / or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug / alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67. This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33 / PS-67 / FASOP HR-04. This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67 / FASOP HR-04. In accordance with PS-18 this position may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of emergency or closure. In the course of the duties, a Plumber Master is required to use various tools; including hand tools, power tools, and shop machinery, to complete assigned tasks. Must be able to stoop, squat, kneel and bend their back; stand for up to 3 hours; climb stairs; climb ladders (fixed and portable); drive a vehicle; properly lift 50 lbs; and work reaching overhead. Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP : HR-04.
Job Duties and Other Information : 60%- Repair, troubleshoot, modify and maintain utility systems including high / low pressure steam, high / low pressure condensate, fire protection mains, sanitary sewer, compressed air, chilled water supply / return, domestic hot / cold water, storm water, and heating water supply / return. Work skills include fabrication, installation, and repair of different piping materials including cast iron, steel, copper, plastic (pvc, pe, hdpe, etc.) to above and below ground systems including tunnel installations. 10%- Troubleshoot system blockages for sewer and drainage piping and operate high pressure water, blast cleaning equipment to restore proper flow characteristics. 10%- Installs piping system from complex drawings and specifications requiring knowledge of fabrication and assembly techniques of copper, cast iron, plastic, steel materials. 5%- Installs, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on pressure regulators, pressure gauges, steam traps, safety relief valves, flow meters, thermal expansion joints, check valves and block valves. 5%- Performs multiple trade skills related to plumbing such as thermal insulation, welding, soldering, excavation, shoring and backfilling, underground pipe coatings, and cathodic protection. 5%- Operates natural gas leak detectors, underground pipe locators, welding machines and trackhoe / backhoe. 5%- Prepares material and purchase requisitions. Other duties as assigned.
