Firefighter / EMT
Performs firefighting, emergency medical services, and fire prevention duties, including safely driving firefighting apparatus and medical units both during emergency responses to the scene of the emergency and during routine daily operations. These duties also include operating equipment at the fire or medical scene, extinguishing fires, and saving lives and property.
Tasks include :
- Driving fire apparatus to scene of emergency, deploying hose, and operating pump and firefighting equipment until extinguishment of fire. Driving medical units to emergency incidents; performing emergency medical care and services to their EMT level; transporting patients to enhanced medical care. Assisting with any other work as might be indicated by the type of emergency or as directed.
- Assisting in fire extinguishment depending on conditions and if so directed.
- Maintaining apparatus in a constant state of readiness, making daily inspections and performing necessary maintenance and repair. Maintaining records and submitting reports as required. Participating in fire drills and attending classes in fire and medical techniques.
- Performing housekeeping and maintenance duties at the station as assigned. Inspecting hydrants, clearing weeds and brush; painting and marking hydrant locations.
- Removing people from danger, performing emergency life support functions as a qualified EMS provider.
- Assisting in instruction of firefighter(s) in efficient and modern practices and principles of fire fighting and rescue work.
- Performing fire prevention inspections as assigned.
- Attending schools and classes to learn advanced principles and techniques in use and operation of fire service apparatus, fire techniques and medical emergency skills.
- Performing tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues that contain blood borne pathogens.
Salary is dependent on certification level.
